Week 12:
Week 12 for me wasn't the best week. Week 12 is the last week and it's upsetting how sick I was throughout the whole thing. Monday after school I had a fever of 102. I went to the doctor and they said I had some sort of virus. I ran a fever all the way till Saturday. It felt like it was the longest sickness ever. I'm still coughing pretty bad as well. When I was sick I didn't vlog at all, so Peyton and I are going to try and see what I can do to make up that time. I was thinking I could maybe vlog some of my Christmas instead. It's crazy that this is the last week. I can't wait to give our presentation and our thoughts on having a YouTube channel. Our Presentation: Peyton and I have started working on our genius hour presentation. We know we want to talk about how hard it was for us to have a YouTube channel. We also want to make sure we don't write a lot on the slides because we want to do most of the talking not the slide. There is so many things to cover in the this presentation. We want to make sure we don't miss anything. One thing I'm excited to talk about is technical difficulties. That was one of Peyton and I's biggest problems with our YouTube channel. With technical difficulties we can talk about how it won't let Peyton send anything to me and how storage affected us both tremendously. Our presentation is basically just going to be us combining all our blogs together and really hitting the important parts. Final Thoughts: My final thoughts on our project is that having a YouTube channel is a lot harder than I thought it would be. There is so many things going on behind the scenes that YouTubers don't show you. Peyton and I had to deal with many technical difficulties, communication problems, editing problems, and just keeping up with the schedule. I'm really glad that Peyton and I chose our project to be creating a YouTube channel because it both really taught us better communication skills and how to work together. Running a YouTube channel with a partner comes with many pros and cons. I learned a lot from this project. How to improve communication skills, teamwork, I'm better with my own computer now, and learned how to work YouTube. I can't wait to talk about this more in depth in our presentation.

WEEK TWELVE
This week has been hard just like the other weeks. It is becoming more and more difficult to upload videos because my phone has gotten to the point to where it wont send any videos or wont let me import any to my computer. This is making it frustrating because I know that working with Riley involves partnership and when I can’t do these tasks, then it holds her back. I can’t help it that my phone is being like this and not performing correctly. I have tried resetting it and turning the whole phone off, but it still doesn’t work . LAST WEEK This is our last week, so this would be the last vlog that we are uploading. I won’t be able to be apart of this vlog either because of the recurring problem. We have decided that our final part of this project is going to be a powerpoint talking about the pros and cons, what we liked, and things we could’ve done better on. I think that this will show what it is really like having a youtube channel and trying to keep uploads consistent. People can see what it is like behind the scenes of trying to entertain subscribers. It requires a lot of work and you have to use nice equipment in order for everything to look good. PARTNERSHIP Throughout this project I would say that Riley and I did a good job communicating for various reasons. When my phone wasn’t working, we communicated a lot and gave each other ideas on what to do to keep the channel. We had to come to the conclusion of posting our own videos. We never thought about what I would do since I couldn’t send clips. This could have been better because now it leaves me out in the open and I won’t really be able to contribute anymore after I was still involved in the project. People are going to think that I did no work, but really they should take into consideration that there are sometimes technical difficulties and not everything looks like it seems. They need to realize that not everything is perfect and is going to work out exactly as it does online. It is actually much harder than it looks and requires more time than just putting videos together. What people need to understand is that I was still doing the project because I was filming my days, but I just couldn’t post them. It’s not like I just let Riley take over when in reality we both deserve the credit. WEEK ELEVEN
This week was rough for me. I have been having problems with my phone when sending my clips to Riley and trying to upload them to my computer to edit. This is very hard for me because we have to get these videos up at certain times that we try to keep up with the schedule. I didn’t get to vlog that much because recently I have been caught up in doing homework for other classes and trying to get reading done for English. This week we decided that we were going to upload our own video for this week and last week. We are doing this because my clips aren’t sending to Riley and it’s taking up a lot of our time. LAST WEEK This is the last week for Genius Hour and we have not reached our goal. I have realized that it is really hard to advertise our page because people see it but they don’t take the time to subscribe. This makes it really hard for us because we have tried to do this method but we haven’t been able to gain any subscribers. We were hoping to get close to one hundred subscribers but weren’t able to. We have decided on doing a slideshow about how much we learned from this process. CONCLUSION I think Riley and I have learned a lot from this project. We have learned how to manage and edit a channel. This helps us keep a site and followers posted to date. We have also learned how to work together as a team. This helps for communication skills to get better. We have been texting back and forth for sending clips and Riley helped me when my phone was messing up. We have enjoyed the videos that have been full and clips from everyday. The vlogs that have very little content don’t turn out as good. Week 11:
Week 11 was a very busy one for me, so it left me little room to vlog. The good thing is I did manage to vlog a good bit. I went to my stepsister dance concert, my grandma flew up from Alabama, and I got sick. Also Peyton and I decided to do something different with the videos this week. We posted separately and combine two weeks together. Doing this our communication actually got a lot better. Week 11 was overall a very productive week for me with the channel. I got to try out a new way to run the channel and our communication was strengthened. New Way to Run the Channel: Peyton's phone has been having extreme technical difficulties. It won't let her send anything to me. We have tried to look up ways to fix it, but nothing worked. I suggested the idea that maybe we can just post separately. Peyton said that she thought the videos would be too short, so we could combine our own clips from week 10 and week 11. We decided that would probably be the best idea. This made edit my half of the video way easier. It was constantly a struggle to get her clips, and try to get everything imported. One reason why we didn't do this earlier is because this channel is supposed to be a partnership. Separating our clips and posting our own video seems very individual. We had really no other choice, but to do that. I could've sent all my clips to her and made her edit it all, but that wouldn't been practical. This was the most practical solution. Communication: Communication has always been a topic that is in my blogs. It's one of the most important things about our YouTube channel. Gladly Peyton and I communication has been a lot better this week. We both had to help come up with ideas and suggestions to what we should do about getting the video uploaded. We collaborated very well, and came up with a good solution. This is one of the first times while we have been posting videos where we came up with the most practical solution. In the first weeks of our channel we would've had no clue what to do. It only took us around five minutes to come up with a practical solution as well. Which is really a big step forward with our channel and our communication. Conclusion: My conclusion for this week was it was it would've been a very challenging week, but since our communication has been improving so much we were able to find a solution. One thing this week showed both of us is when there is a problem not to just ignore, and hope it will go away. To communicate and try to solve the problem as soon as possible. We will probably never be able to find a way to fix Peyton's phone, but we can always find a way to work around that. We are getting close to the end and there has been so many obstacles throughout having a YouTube channel especially with a friend. We have really improved on finding a way to get around those obstacles. Week 10:
Week 10 wasn't a very exciting week, but it was a productive one. Peyton and I both did a good job of trying to vlog everyday of the week. Both Peyton and I were busy this week with school work, so we tried our best to make time to vlog and we did a pretty good job. Usually the most clips of our video come from Sunday because we are trying to cram. That didn't happen this week, it was evenly distributed throughout the week. With Peyton starting volleyball are communication throughout the week hasn't been great, but not terrible. So key points this week was communication and effective not equal. Communication: As I said earlier with Peyton starting volleyball. It has put a obstacle in between our communication. We try to communicate throughout the week, but usually the most communication happens on Saturday and Sunday. Which I would like to see a change in that. The videos were turn out better and talking in advance would give us more time to get the video ready. Communication has been a key point for many of the previous weeks. Our communication skills go up and down every week. It would make our channel better and easier for us to produce videos if our communication throughout the weeks stayed consistent. Another thing with communication is Peyton sending me her clips for me to edit the video. Usually I ask Peyton to send her clips on Sunday, but usually something sets us back. With these unexpected set backs when we are already pushing it close to the wire to post the videos, makes getting the videos up a lot harder than it should be. A way to resolve this is for me to ask Peyton to send me her clips throughout the week, so I can edit throughout the week. Effective not Equal: I think this is really a key thing to any partnership. Since Peyton has volleyball and school, and I don't play a sport it just makes sense for me to edit the videos. Even though I may be doing more work than her with editing the videos, it's still the better option. Making Peyton edit the videos would be dumb of us to do because Peyton may fail to get the video posted because she has so much things to do. With me doing it there is a better chance of the video going up because I don't have extra things on my plate like Peyton does. I wish this is something we would've have realized earlier because we still need to post a video from a few weeks ago that Peyton edited, but she hasn't had the time to get to it. Being effective instead trying to make sure the work is even really gets you farther. Conclusion: My conclusion for this week is that our video turned out pretty well. Peyton and I are nailing the video making, editing, and actually vlogging. Which is something we struggled with in the very first weeks, so it is reassuring to see progress in that. We are defiantly still learning a few things. Communication is something we have struggled with for many weeks, and we are still trying to nail. This week we really got the groove of not trying to make everything equal in the channel, but working effectively. The video turned out much better this week because we started working effectively. Going into this that's one thing we had wrong, and I'm glad we have been able to fix it. Week Ten
This week I started volleyball practice for club season. Now that we are playing for older teams, practices are starting to be later in the evening. We have practice on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Sunday practices are from 2-4. Wednesdays are from 7:30-9:30. Thursdays are 6:30-8:30. It’s very hard to get home from school and get homework done in the time period that I have until I leave for practices. Most of the time I have a lot of homework for each class and it takes time to complete these assignments. Taking an AP class is a lot of work that I have to do in order to maintain a good grade. This means that I have to focus when doing homework and work my way through the homework. On Wednesdays, since practice is so late, I get home at 10:15 because it is 25-30 minutes away. If I can’t finish my homework in the time before I leave, then I have to stay up and do it before I go to bed. Having the two hardest classes that I’m taking being the first two classes of my schedule, I can’t do this homework in SMART lunch because it’s after first and second period. Vlogging I would say this week I have done a pretty good job vlogging because I’ve been focusing more and trying to get clips for each day. The only day that I would say I “missed” was Thursday, because I had to focus on getting my homework done before leaving for practice and when I got home, it was already late and I had to stay up until 1 so I could read my book for English. I think that both of us have vlogged this week so we will have decent content. I have clips of me on the way to school and after school. They aren’t very entertaining because all I am doing is going to school, so I’m not doing anything fun to video. School We have 2 more weeks until Christmas/ Winter break. The last day is an early release, and this is the day that we get out. These last two weeks are going to be the worst weeks because we are cramming in so much. Exams are in January, so this semester is nearly over. Next semester I am taking Spanish 2, Biology, AP World, and Math 3. It is going to be a long and hard semester, but it is the second one, so after those two quarters we have summer break. I’m looking forward to the end of this semester, so I can start fresh for new classes. Thank you for joining in on this weeks blog post! See you next week! Week 9:
Week 9 was Thanksgiving break! I really enjoy Thanksgiving break because I go out of town to see my family that I usually only see once a year. I was really debating if I wanted to vlog while I was there or not. I decided not to vlog because I wanted to enjoy the time I had with them. Instead of vlogging in the moment, I decided to take a video of me talking about how my Thanksgiving break was, explaining everything I did, and a few funny stories. Week nine was all about spending time with family, but also being able to find time to vlog. Funny Events: There was so many funny things that happened to me over Thanksgiving, but I choose not to video them in the moment. I decided just to talk about them in the vlog instead. One reason I choose not to video in the moment is it just makes things more chaotic than they already are. For example on the way back from my great grandmothers house my grandma dropped her phone in a gas station parking lot. I talk about the details in the vlog, but this was all really funny to everyone else, but her. She was also freaking out, so as funny as it is it wasn't the best time to start videoing. Sickness: One thing about me is that I tend to get very car sick. Over the break I was in the car a lot. In totally I was in the car for 13 hours. For a person that gets car sick easily this was not an easier trip. On the way back from the trip we had to stop multiple times, so I could throw up. Obviously nobody wants to see my throw up or just me in the car. I didn't vlog in the car because I knew it would be pretty boring and I felt sick the whole time. Making a video just talking about the funny and interesting parts of the trip is better for the viewers because it will keep them more engaged. Conclusion: Week nine has overall been a really great week. This week is really showing Peyton and I that we can still spend time with our family and still come up with an entertaining and productive vlog. This video is a little different from our previous videos, so it will be good to see if our audience prefers our old way of doing videos or they like the new way better. I'm surprised Peyton and I didn't think of doing something like this sooner, but the good thing is we thought of it now. Week Nine:
This week was Thanksgiving Break. We were out of school for a couple of days so my family took a trip to Tennessee. We met my grandparents and went to Dollywood. I got to vlog a little bit but didn’t get much in. I was so busy spending time with my family that I couldn’t video much that we were doing. We left on Wednesday morning after I had a doctors appointment. The only major thing was that I got a flu shot. We spent the night at Apple Valley Comfort Inn, then went to Dream More hotel for the rest of the week. Dream More is the hotel that associates with Dollywood. We rode the bus from the hotel to the park each day. Vlog: This week’s vlog will go up a little bit later because of the fact that I haven’t really been able to edit. I haven’t had any service to connect to the internet. With that being said, I also haven’t had anytime to get the clips together and edit the videos. This is what will hold back the time because it takes time to transfer videos because I don’t have anymore storage. I will have to work harder to get this vlog up because it will be later than usual and I know that we have a schedule but sometimes things can get messed up with plans. We will work harder for the rest of the project to try and run this schedule better but it has been a busy couple of weeks lately. Work: Recently, I have had so much schoolwork to do for each of my classes and it gets hard to do everything at once. We have a few more weeks until Christmas Break so we will be having a lot of work to do so teachers can put in grades. This is very overwhelming because we have a lot of work for each class, not just one, so it adds more time and makes it harder to focus on just one thing. I will still be focusing on this project and trying to get our goal achieved but we will still have other things. We have to take it a step and a time because we are trying to get multiple things done. We will have learned multiple editing techniques and we can get more done faster because we already know how to use the software. Week 8:
This week has been better than previous weeks, but I know that Peyton and I can do even better. One thing I’m learning throughout this project is that there are many challenges that come with vlogging, such as technical difficulties, storage issues, and time. This all are huge factors that play into getting these vlogs up. Both Peyton and I faced these problems this week, but we are always going to try to overcome them. Technical Difficulties: Sunday (Today), my laptop decided it wasn’t going to work anymore. This is a huge obstacle because I use my laptop to edit the videos. I already had part of the video edited, but unfortunately I’m not going to be able to get to it. This isn’t the biggest impossible to fix, but it’s certainly not ideal. I’m having to start over editing the video and try to do it on my phone. I’ve never edited the video on my phone before, but it’s what I have to do to get the video up. Storage: Both a problem Peyton and I have come across is storage. Peyton has been trying to upload the vlog from week 4, but her phone will not let her continue to do anything with the video because it says she has no storage. Peyton is trying to clear up some space, so that video can go up. Also a problem with storage is in the middle of me filing something the video will cut off and say no storage. This set me back because I need to import my videos to my laptop immediately. Time: Time is the biggest issue or problem that comes with vlogging. If vlogging is not your number one priority it most likely will not get done. With Peyton and I school is usually our biggest priority, Even though this is a school project we have to make sure we give time to each of our subjects and get as much as we can. Outside of school Peyton plays a sport, so that sets her back. We also have families that we want to be able to spend time with. Conclusion: Week 8 has been a good one, but very challenging one. Not everything can be perfect and I have to face that and move on. Peyton and I should be able to adapt to new situations and not let challenges set us back. We are always trying to do our best and make the videos as good as possible. Week Eight:
This week was the same as the first couple. I vlogged most of the week but missed a few days. I will push to get at least one week where I vlog everyday of the week. If I can do this for the rest of the project then we will have a better outcome than expected from the beginning vlogs. This week was a hard week to get through school because it was back to being a long and normal week. I had some tests and quizzes. I have been working hard trying to study and get stuff done for school, so I had to film when I wasn’t doing either of those things. Problems: Recently, my phone has been giving me notifications that I don’t have any storage left on my phone. This is really bad timing because I am supposed to be using my phone to record for vlogs. I can’t just go in and delete photos and other videos because those are the things I want to keep. This is inconvenient because we still have a couple more weeks left and we can’t give up here. I am having to come up with solutions for this because this project is a grade. If I stop videoing, then it starts to effect Riley, my partner. Editing: I have realized that I have gotten used to editing. I have become used to the software that I use, and it takes a shorter amount of time than it did when I started. I have been able to play around with backgrounds and titles. I am starting to use the software for other projects because I’ve learned how to use it. I used it for our Modernization project and made a news report. Unfortunately, it didn’t play, so we didn’t get to use it for the play. Another time that I used this for was for a music video that we had to make for AP World. I got to edit the clips that we filmed, and I had to add lyrics to each individual clip. |
